Using Word of Life (Ignatius Press/Augustine Institute), our meetings introduce children to the foundations of the Catholic faith in engaging and exciting ways. We begin in the Fine Arts Room (north end of the School Gym/Parish Hall) at 6:00pm with a large-group assembly where we pray together and learn about a Saint of the week, a Virtue of the week and a Little Latin. Children then move to school classrooms to work on grade -level religious instruction. The evening concludes at 7:30pm. Chapters, crafts, and family material are sent home with the children each week. Every family will receive information about online resources from our Word of Life curriculum. We gather throughout the year for Religious Education Masses--kids come for a short classroom meeting on these days and then we join together for Mass at 6:45pm.
Our program is open to all our parish children. It is primarily focused for our parish children who do not attend a Catholic school or use anon-Catholic home-school curriculum--but any child can attend and will benefit from Religious Education!
Sacramental Preparation Reminder:
Preparing for a Sacrament occurs separately from our Religious Education program. Children who are ready to prepare for a Sacrament are invited to attend our preparation programs that meet on Sunday mornings (concurrent meetings for parents, too). Children can begin preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist after they reach the age of 7. These Sacraments require a child's free and informed consent--which is why we separate Sacramental Preparation from Religious Education (whether in the Parish or at our Parish School). For more details and registration forms, please see the Sacrament Preparation section of our parish website.
